Guwahati, March 24: Badaruddin Ajmal, the leader of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), is set to contest from the Binakandi seat in Assam. In his election affidavit, he has declared assets exceeding ₹169 crore and liabilities of over ₹4.45 crore.
According to the affidavit submitted with his nomination papers, Ajmal’s total movable assets are approximately ₹52.43 crore, while his immovable assets amount to around ₹149.12 crore. His wife, Rizwana, has movable assets of about ₹31.08 lakh and immovable assets worth approximately ₹6.82 lakh.
The affidavit also reveals liabilities totaling ₹4.45 crore, primarily consisting of loans from financial institutions.
In terms of income, Ajmal reported earnings of approximately ₹3.21 crore for the financial year 2024-25, while his wife declared an income of ₹49,950 during the same period.
Ajmal’s declared wealth has seen significant growth over the past decade. His latest election affidavit indicates that his total assets have now surpassed ₹169 crore. A comparison with his previous affidavits shows a consistent increase in his wealth over the last ten years.
Around the time of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Ajmal declared assets of approximately ₹44-50 crore. By the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, his total assets had notably increased to around ₹78-90 crore, reflecting nearly a doubling of his wealth within five years.
In his latest affidavit, Ajmal’s total assets exceeding ₹169 crore represent another substantial leap, tripling his wealth compared to a decade ago. This growth is primarily attributed to an increase in immovable properties, which now stand at approximately ₹149 crore, along with movable assets valued at over ₹52 crore.
Ajmal has detailed a wide range of investments, including bank deposits, shares, bonds, and stakes in various business ventures. Documents attached to the affidavit reveal significant stakes in companies and partnerships, as well as assets such as vehicles and jewelry.
His immovable assets include agricultural and non-agricultural land, along with residential properties spread across Assam and other states.
The affidavit mentions properties located in Hojai, Guwahati, and parts of Karnataka, showcasing a diverse real estate portfolio.
Additionally, the affidavit notes a pending criminal case against Ajmal related to alleged offensive comments, which is currently under investigation.
It further states that Ajmal’s highest educational qualification is matriculation from Darul Uloom Deoband.
