New Delhi, August 11: Indian all-rounder Ashutosh Sharma will miss Hampshire’s One-Day Cup match against Derbyshire on Tuesday due to an injury sustained during Sunday’s match.
Hampshire announced his absence in their squad announcement. However, the team did not provide details regarding the severity of Ashutosh’s injury.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Hampshire said, “Ashutosh Sharma is unavailable due to an injury sustained during Sunday’s match. Fast bowler Harry Petrie, who played in the first three matches of this competition, has returned.”
Ashutosh’s performance in the One-Day Cup has been mixed, scoring only 56 runs in seven matches, with a top score of 16. However, his bowling has been exceptional, making him Hampshire’s leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets at an average of 15.92. His injury is a significant blow for Hampshire.
This injury comes at a crucial time for Hampshire, who currently sit fourth in their group, having won four out of seven matches. The team faces a tough challenge to qualify for the next stage.
Petrie’s return provides Hampshire with an option to fill Ashutosh’s spot, as he participated in the county’s first three matches of the tournament.
Ashutosh plays for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Over the last two IPL seasons, he has scored over 350 runs for DC at a strike rate of 170 and an average of 31.25. However, he has yet to fully showcase his batting potential in the league.
