Ashok Gehlot Criticizes Central Governments Ethanol Blending Policy

Jaipur, August 22: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan has criticized the central government’s policy of large-scale ethanol blending in petrol. He claims that this decision was made without adequate preparation, resulting in significant consequences for the public on multiple levels.

Gehlot stated, “The lack of foresight from the central government is evident in the decision to blend large amounts of ethanol in petrol. The repercussions of this hasty decision are being felt by the citizens on various fronts.”

He pointed out that a substantial portion of sugarcane is now being diverted from sugar production to ethanol production, which has affected the availability of sugar in the market. In just 15 days, sugar prices have surged by ₹14 to ₹17 per kilogram.

Gehlot emphasized that the issue extends beyond inflation. He alleged that there have been complaints about damage to vehicle engines and reduced mileage due to ethanol-blended fuel. This has placed an additional financial burden on the public, as they now have to spend more on fuel and vehicle maintenance.

He remarked, “This is akin to robbing the hard-earned money of the common man. A few industrialists and the government are benefiting from this system, while ordinary citizens are left to bear the brunt of rising prices.”

Gehlot also expressed concern over complaints related to air and water pollution associated with ethanol production.

He insisted that the central government should have conducted thorough planning, studies, and preparations before implementing such a significant policy. The decision was made without sufficient groundwork, and now the citizens are paying the price.

He accused the Modi government of losing the public’s trust, which has hindered their ability to communicate the benefits of their decisions effectively. Gehlot called for a comprehensive review of the ethanol blending policy, taking into account the impact on consumers, sugar availability, vehicle owners, and the environment.
