Arunachal Governor Completes Self-Enumeration for 2027 Census, Urges Public Participation

Itanagar, April 25: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General K.T. Parnaik (Retired) completed his self-enumeration on Friday at the Lok Bhawan in Itanagar as part of the 2027 Census process. By doing so, he set an example for citizens to actively participate in this crucial national task.

During a discussion with the self-enumeration team, the Governor emphasized the importance of self-enumeration for a reliable and inclusive census. He noted that it allows citizens to contribute directly to nation-building by providing accurate information about their families, communities, and localities.

He explained that trustworthy census data serves as the backbone for planning schools, hospitals, roads, welfare schemes, and major development policies. Thus, self-enumeration becomes a vital pillar in realizing the dream of a ‘Developed India.’

Lieutenant General Parnaik (Retired) stated that self-enumeration is not merely a statistical exercise but a significant civic responsibility. It plays a crucial role in identifying needs, ensuring proper resource allocation, and strengthening good governance.

The Governor also urged the census team to ensure that every household is counted, every voice is heard, and no one is left behind. He stressed that active public participation would aid in building a stronger and more developed India.

A team from the Census Operations Directorate in Shillong briefed the Governor about the census process and methodologies. The team was led by Director Biswajit Pegoo, along with officials from the Department of Economics and Statistics, headed by Secretary-cum-State Nodal Officer Anu Singh for Census 2027.

They informed him that the self-enumeration phase under the ‘House Listing Operation’ began on April 16 and will continue until April 30, 2026. During this period, citizens can complete the process online.

Following this, from May 1 to May 30, the ground-level ‘House Listing’ work will take place, where census workers will visit homes to collect data. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also actively participated in this exercise from Itanagar and Namsai on April 16.
