Mumbai, March 17: The central government is actively working to enhance the safety and modernity of national highways across the country through the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
On Tuesday, Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, announced via social media platform ‘X’ that an investment of ₹451.49 crores has been approved for upgrading the Thawar-Jerda section of National Highway-168A in Banaskantha district, Gujarat, to a four-lane road.
He stated, “The upgrade for the Thawar-Jerda section (22.45 km long) of National Highway-168A has been approved at a cost of ₹451.49 crores.”
The proposed section passes through the town of Dhanera and connects to Jerda village near Disa. This route facilitates traffic heading towards Sirohi and Pali in Rajasthan via National Highway-168 and State Highway-7. The area experiences significant local traffic.
Gadkari further mentioned, “Currently, there is heavy congestion on the existing road, especially in Dhanera. Upgrading to a four-lane road, along with the reconstruction of a 5.5-meter service road in Dhanera, will alleviate congestion, improve road safety, increase traffic flow, and reduce travel time.”
Earlier, on Saturday, the minister had also shared information on ‘X’ regarding the approval of ₹910.90 crores for the construction of flyovers and service roads as part of the six-lane upgrade for the Jaipur-Kishangarh section (89.785 km long) of National Highway-48 in Jaipur and Ajmer districts of Rajasthan.
In his post, he added, “This corridor will be partially developed as an access-controlled highway, which will help increase the average speed of vehicles and reduce travel time from the current 2 hours to approximately 1 hour. The separation of local traffic, along with the provision of service roads and flyovers, will also enhance safety. Solutions will be implemented for existing conflict points on this section to reduce accidents and fatalities.”
