Mumbai, April 4: Renowned devotional singer Anup Jalota has teamed up with popular Bangladeshi vocalist Shithi Saha to shoot a beautiful ghazal video at his home. The video captures the emotions of love and separation, showcasing the artistic synergy between the two performers. During this occasion, Jalota spoke candidly about cross-cultural collaboration, royalty issues, and his versatile image.
Jalota revealed that the ghazal is penned by Ved Prakash Malik ‘Sarshar,’ with music composed by himself, focusing on themes of love and longing. Shithi Saha lends her voice alongside him, while the music arrangement is by Amit, based in Kolkata. The video is directed by Vivek Prakash.
“This is a complete team effort. Watching the video will surely uplift your spirits,” Jalota stated.
Shithi, a playback singer from Bangladesh, expressed her excitement about this collaboration, calling it a significant start for her career. She mentioned that receiving blessings from Jalota could lead to more opportunities in the future. “I have always listened to Anup Ji’s bhajans and ghazals. Singing with him feels like a true blessing. I am thrilled yet a bit nervous,” she added.
Explaining the choice to shoot at home, Jalota emphasized that artists should work in environments where they feel at peace. The beautiful paintings, furniture, and ambiance of his home cannot be replicated in a studio. This approach not only reduces costs but also enhances the quality of the video. He noted that the idea evolved step by step after the recording.
Discussing cross-cultural collaboration, Jalota remarked that if the song and singer are good, there should be no issues. He himself sings in 15 languages, including bhajans, ghazals, film songs, and qawwalis. He also shared insights about his public image, stating, “People know me as a bhajan singer, which brings me immense joy as it has allowed me to reach villages. Ghazals do not have the same reach. However, life is short, and one should experience everything. That’s why I sometimes wear colorful shirts and even participate in shows like Bigg Boss.”
Despite political tensions between India and Bangladesh, Jalota believes there are no serious issues between the two countries. He reiterated his stance on not collaborating with Pakistani artists until peace is restored.
Shithi praised the hospitality she received in India, saying, “India has always been special to me. Anup Ji has provided me shelter here. I cannot express how happy and excited I feel. The relationship between India and Bangladesh has always been good, and this collaboration marks a new beginning.”
On the topic of royalty, Jalota mentioned the Indian Singers and Musicians Rights Association, which recently distributed ₹100 crores in royalties. He urged artists to become members of the association to ensure they receive their rightful earnings.
