Mumbai, March 23: Anjuman Saxena, known for her impactful role in the recently released web series ‘Chiraiya,’ delves into the critical theme of marital consent. The series, featuring Sanjay Mishra and Divya Dutta, sparks essential conversations about marital rape. Anjuman shared her insights on the film’s unique premise, her character’s relevance, her acting journey, and lessons learned from theater.
‘Chiraiya’ addresses vital issues such as mutual understanding and consent between spouses, topics often overlooked in society. Anjuman recounted her immediate agreement to join the project after receiving a call from casting director Romil. She expressed, “This character reflects the truth of the common woman today. Marriage doesn’t mean the end of understanding; both partners need time to know each other. Consent is crucial. Marriage is not a license. Women have their own thoughts and desires. This message needs to reach everyone, which is why I accepted the role.”
Discussing the series’ theme, Anjuman noted that such narratives are rare in Bollywood. She stated, “This subject is necessary, yet people tend to avoid it. The film illustrates that consent and respect are essential even after marriage. It’s not just a game of dolls.”
Anjuman emphasized the importance of discipline and hard work in acting. Theater has taught her the seriousness required in her craft.
