Mumbai, August 12: The world of television is brimming with quiz shows, where contestants answer questions on general knowledge, history, science, and entertainment to win substantial prizes. However, a new game show is set to challenge this norm, emphasizing common sense over textbook knowledge.
Bollywood superstar Anil Kapoor will host the upcoming quiz game show ‘India’s Top 1 Percent.’ He has shared intriguing insights about the show’s format, highlighting its distinctiveness from other quiz shows. Contestants will need to rely on their reasoning and understanding rather than merely memorizing difficult facts.
Anil Kapoor explained that the show will feature a total of 13 questions, primarily based on common sense. Notably, instead of one or two contestants, 100 players will participate simultaneously in the studio. After each question, a large number of responses will be revealed, and those who answer incorrectly risk being eliminated from the game and losing their prize money.
The game will kick off with each player receiving one lakh rupees, meaning all 100 contestants will start with an initial amount of one lakh each. As the game progresses and players give wrong answers, their money will be added to the prize pool. After all 13 questions, this prize pool could reach a maximum of one crore rupees. Thus, contestants will face the dual challenge of providing correct answers while also safeguarding their winnings.
Anil Kapoor further noted that this show will not only include studio contestants. Viewers at home will also have the opportunity to participate. Those watching on TV or mobile devices can answer questions and test their understanding.
“This platform will reward and value people’s common sense. Often, the answer to a question comes not from book knowledge but from practical understanding and logical thinking. ‘India’s Top 1 Percent’ will showcase this concept in a game format,” Anil Kapoor stated.
The show is the Indian adaptation of the popular international game show format ‘The 1 Percent Club,’ which debuted in the UK in 2022. It quickly gained traction and has been localized in several countries, including the USA, Australia, Germany, Spain, France, Israel, and Mexico.
Anil Kapoor will bring his unique flair to the Indian version of the show, which is set to premiere on September 5, 2026, on Star Plus and JioCinema.
