Austrian Duo Wins Shanghai Masters Doubles Title Without Dropping a Set

Lucas Miedler and Neil Oberleitner claim the Shanghai Masters doubles title, winning all matches without losing a set.

Shanghai, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : Lucas Miedler and Neil Oberleitner of Austria captured the Shanghai Masters doubles title on October 18, defeating Francisco Cabral and JJ Tracy with a score of 6-3, 6-4. The Austrian pair showcased their dominance throughout the tournament, winning all five matches without dropping a single set.

The final took place at the Kizhong Forest Sports City Arena, where Miedler and Oberleitner secured victory in just 66 minutes. They broke their opponents’ serve once in each set, demonstrating their strong performance on the court.

This achievement marks a significant milestone as Miedler and Oberleitner become the first entirely Austrian duo to win a title in the Masters 1000 series, which has been held since 1990. Their success comes in only their second tournament together, following a quarter-final finish in Tokyo.

In the final match, the Austrian duo’s serve proved to be highly effective, leaving Cabral and Tracy without any chances to break. According to ATP statistics, Miedler and Oberleitner won 96 percent of points on their first serve and faced no break points against the Portuguese-American pair in their first ATP head-to-head meeting.

For Miedler, this title is the most significant among his 14 ATP Tour doubles titles. Meanwhile, Oberleitner celebrated another achievement in his career, adding this title to his previous victory at Winston-Salem with Petr Nouza in August, marking his second doubles title at the tour level.

The 27-year-old Oberleitner expressed his joy at converting his potential into success on such a prestigious stage. After winning the Masters 1000 title in just their second tournament together, he expressed his desire to continue this success in the future.
