Major Drug Bust in Tamil Nadu: 137 Kilograms of Crystal Meth Seized, Four Arrested

Authorities in Tamil Nadu seized 137 kg of crystal meth valued over ₹100 crore and arrested four suspects involved in the trafficking.

Nagapattinam, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has made a significant drug bust in Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu, seizing 137 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as meth. The estimated value of the confiscated drugs exceeds ₹100 crore. Four individuals have been arrested in connection with this case.

Based on specific intelligence received on October 16 and 17, DRI officials monitored the coastal area of Nagapattinam, where they discovered a large cache of narcotics hidden. Following this, they conducted a search operation at the identified location.

During the search, six duffel bags were recovered, containing 27 packets wrapped in silver foil. Each packet weighed approximately five kilograms and contained a white crystalline substance suspected to be high-purity methamphetamine. The total weight of the seized drugs has been reported as 137 kilograms.

The DRI acted under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), 1985, to confiscate the drugs.

In addition to the drug seizure, authorities also searched the premises of an alleged operator of the trafficking network. They found ₹10 lakh in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales. Furthermore, two four-wheeled vehicles and one two-wheeler, allegedly used for transporting the narcotics, were also seized.

The investigation has revealed the involvement of various individuals in the trafficking network, who were responsible for the transportation, storage, and other arrangements to send the drug shipment to Sri Lanka via sea routes. The four arrested suspects have been placed in judicial custody under the NDPS Act, 1985.

According to the DRI, this operation not only prevented a large quantity of illegal narcotics from entering the market but also dismantled an alleged international trafficking network operating through coastal routes. This action is part of the DRI’s ongoing campaign to combat the illegal drug trade along India’s maritime borders.
