Houston, March 28: Mike Trout, Josh Lowe, and Zach Neto showcased their power hitting as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Houston Astros 6-2 on Friday night.
In his second game with the Angels, Josh Lowe broke a 1-1 tie in the second inning, launching a three-run homer into the Crawford Boxes off Mike Burrows. Lowe joined the Angels from the Tampa Bay Rays in a trade on January 16.
Trout contributed a solo home run in the fifth inning, marking a standout performance with three hits. This achievement is notable as it is the first time in his 16-year major league career that he has homered in his first two games of a season.
Neto capped off the scoring with a solo shot to start the ninth inning, marking his second extra-base hit of the night.
The Angels’ pitching staff was led by Yusei Kikuchi, who allowed two runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings. The bullpen, consisting of Chase Silseth, Ryan Zeferjahn (1-0), Sam Bachman, and Jordan Romano, delivered 4 2/3 scoreless innings.
Burrows (0-1), making his Astros debut after being traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates on December 19, gave up five runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings, while striking out six.
For the Astros, Yordan Alvarez hit a home run, and Carlos Correa recorded two hits along with a walk. Jeremy Peña, who missed the season opener, contributed with two hits, a stolen base, and a run scored.
This loss marks the Astros’ 0-2 start for the second time in three seasons under manager Joe Espada.
