Jharkhand Police Association Demands Arrest of MLA Jayaram Mahato Amidst Allegations

Ranchi, September 1: The Jharkhand Police Association has announced a protest demanding the arrest of MLA Jayaram Kumar Mahato and his supporters. This follows allegations of altercations, verbal abuse, and misconduct involving police personnel at the Barwadih police station in Dhanbad.

The association has sent a letter to the Chief Minister, insisting on the arrest of the MLA and his supporters. If their demands are not met, they plan to initiate a phased protest.

During a press conference on Tuesday evening, association president Rahul Kumar Murmu and general secretary Sanjeev Kumar outlined the protest plan. The first phase will see police officers wearing black badges from September 8 to 11. A collective fast is scheduled for September 19, during which meals will not be prepared at police stations, outposts, and messes.

On September 24, a demonstration will take place outside SP offices, while central officials of the association will protest in front of the DGP office. Following this, police personnel will take collective leave from October 5 to 10.

According to the association, on August 22, MLA Jayaram Mahato and his supporters attempted to disrupt police operations at the Barwadih police station in connection with case number 146/26, trying to free an accused individual.

The association claims that despite a First Information Report being filed five days prior, no action has been taken against the accused. They allege that the police association has faced threats via social media and press. In addition to the immediate arrest of the MLA and his supporters, the association is also demanding an increase in uniform and ration allowances, a review of various allowances according to the seventh pay commission, and educational allowances for two children similar to those provided to central police personnel.

Furthermore, they are calling for an increase in health allowances, transfers for police personnel stationed in the same district for extended periods, and timely promotions. The association has also urged for strict laws to prevent alleged unethical interference and misconduct by public representatives in police work.
