Amit Shah Participates in Modi Pongal Festival at Tiruchirappalli Temples

Chennai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah took part in the BJP Tamil Nadu unit’s ‘Modi Pongal’ festival in Tiruchirappalli on Monday. He celebrated the traditional harvest festival with enthusiasm, sending a strong political message ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.

BJP leaders and party workers warmly welcomed the Home Minister upon his arrival at the venue in Mannarpuram. According to organisers, over 2,000 people attended the event, which featured a cultural programme where women performed Pongal rituals using 1,008 clay pots.

The celebration was held under the slogan “Namma Ooru Modi Pongal Vizha,” highlighting the party’s efforts to connect Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Tamil cultural traditions. Amit Shah was seen dressed in traditional white dhoti and shirt.

Party officials stated that the event aimed to strengthen BJP’s grassroots presence and tie governance in Tamil Nadu with cultural identity.

Earlier, Amit Shah visited temples in Tiruchirappalli district. He performed prayers at Jambukeshwarar Temple and later visited the Ranganathaswamy Temple, one of South India’s most revered Vaishnavite shrines. The Union Minister greeted the large gathering of devotees, shook hands, and interacted briefly with the public.

Senior BJP leaders including Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Murli Dhar Mohol, and L. Murugan accompanied Amit Shah during the visit.

Considering the importance of the visit, extensive police security arrangements were made around the temple premises and the Modi Pongal event site in Tiruchirappalli.

Officials confirmed that the event proceeded peacefully with smooth traffic diversion and crowd control measures in place.
