Kolkata, April 24: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has issued a stern warning to supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) during a rally in North 24 Parganas. He cautioned them to stay indoors during the second phase of voting, stating, “If you step outside, I will turn you upside down.”
This statement came after a record turnout in the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, despite some incidents of violence, which were notably lower than in previous elections. Shah emphasized that TMC supporters did not venture out during the first phase and reiterated his warning for the upcoming voting.
The Home Minister’s remarks were shared on his social media account, where he also recalled the atrocities faced by women in Madhyamgram. Shah was addressing a large crowd during a roadshow in Madhyamgram, which drew significant attendance.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) reported unprecedented voter participation in both the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and the first phase of voting in West Bengal. This marks a significant milestone in India’s democratic journey since independence.
As of 5 PM, the voter turnout in West Bengal’s first phase reached 91.78%, surpassing the previous record of 84.72% set in 2011. Women’s participation was particularly notable at 92.69%, while male voter turnout stood at 90.92%.
Election Commission officials stated that these elections were conducted with extensive logistical and administrative oversight.
