Alyssa Healy Reflects on Career After Emotional Farewell Match

Perth, March 8: Australia secured a remarkable 10-wicket victory against India in a single Test match held at the WACA Ground. Australian captain Alyssa Healy expressed pride in concluding her international career with this memorable win, as her team clinched the multi-format series 12-4 by defeating the Indian women’s team in the pink-ball Test.

In her final match for Australia, Healy expressed confidence in the next generation of players, emphasizing the leadership of Sophie Molineux. She stated, “I am truly excited to see this fantastic group progress under Sophie Molineux’s leadership. I believe they will achieve great things.”

Australia faced a setback in the T20 series, losing 1-2 to India. However, they made a strong comeback by sweeping the ODI series 3-0 and subsequently winning the Test series. Healy takes immense pride in the team’s remarkable recovery.

After the match, she remarked, “I am really happy with this effort. There was some disappointment and uncertainty in the group after the T20 series, but the way the team played in the last four matches was incredible. I am genuinely proud, and it has been a great time together.”

The wicketkeeper-batsman became emotional just before returning to the dressing room. Healy praised the longer format of the game for allowing young players to develop their skills, saying, “Test cricket gives these young players a chance to showcase their skills over a longer period. White-ball cricket doesn’t always allow you to set up as a batsman or build an innings.”

Reflecting on the support from fans both on the field and at home, Healy shared that she felt this love during the final week of her career. She said, “When you represent your country, you are in a bubble, just trying to win games. You might not be aware of what’s happening outside. It has been amazing to feel that love and support this week, so thank you to everyone who came out and to those watching from home.”

She also thanked the Indian team for their efforts during their busy schedule and wished them luck for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in England, saying, “Thank you all. Best of luck for the World Cup in the middle of the year. I know you will be watching it closely in the UK, so we will be waiting. Hopefully, it will be Australia and India in the finals, but thank you for your efforts.”
