Al Ain, United Arab Emirates – August 4, 2025: Al Ain Zoo continues to strengthen its commitment to environmental sustainability by fostering coexistence and biodiversity across various ecosystems. Through thoughtful strategies and conservation-led efforts, the Zoo is playing a significant role in promoting sustainable practices in the UAE.

Al Ain Zoo

A key component of this initiative involves the preservation of ecological balance through the careful selection and planting of native species such as Sidr, Samr, Qirt, Ghaf, Asbuj, Aarakh, and Shaw trees. Notably, the Zoo has planted over 214 Ghaf trees, well known for their resilience in extreme weather conditions.

Water Conservation and Eco-Friendly Landscaping

In line with its goal to conserve natural resources, Al Ain Zoo has implemented innovative landscaping practices. In certain areas, natural grass has been replaced with native plants and gravel, significantly reducing water consumption while reshaping the environment to better reflect the natural landscape of the UAE.

Zoo teams have actively explored creative methods to reuse tree components — including branches and bark — for purposes such as animal feed, landscaping, and maintenance, ensuring a zero-waste approach wherever possible.

Seed Bank and Nursery for Plant Preservation

As part of its long-term sustainability vision, Al Ain Zoo has established a Seed Bank, preserving over 50 species of native and non-native plants. This facility is complemented by a dedicated nursery, where a wide variety of plants are cultivated and maintained for future use, ensuring the continuity of plant biodiversity.

Community Engagement and Environmental Education

Al Ain Zoo also plays a vital role in educating the public about conservation. It has launched educational programs tailored for all age groups and is working closely with governmental and local institutions to promote awareness and community involvement in protecting nature and its resources.

By combining environmental stewardship with innovation and education, Al Ain Zoo continues to be a model of sustainability and biodiversity conservation in the region.
