Mumbai, March 24: After 25 years, Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan are set to bring laughter back to the big screen with their upcoming film, ‘Bhoot Bangla,’ scheduled for release on May 15.
The duo, known for iconic films like ‘Hera Pheri’ and ‘Bhagam Bhag,’ shared intriguing stories about their early collaborations. Did you know that Akshay Kumar was initially offered the role of Shyam? In an exclusive interview, both Kumar and Priyadarshan recounted their first meeting.
They met at B.R. Chopra’s dubbing studio, where Priyadarshan pitched the film’s story. Kumar revealed, “I was dubbing for another film when Priyadarshan arrived and offered me the role of Shyam. However, I preferred the character of Raju.”
Kumar explained that he had previously only been cast in action roles, and he found the mischievous and money-driven character of Raju more appealing. Priyadarshan humorously noted that Kumar is just as mischievous in real life, leading to shared laughter.
Rajpal Yadav also shared a humorous anecdote from his first encounter with Priyadarshan. He mentioned that since working with the director, he has never needed to read a script. In fact, he still doesn’t know the plot of ‘Bhoot Bangla.’
Yadav recalled, “Our first brief meeting was on the set of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati,’ and the second was regarding the film ‘Hungama.’ I traveled to Chennai to meet him, and during our first encounter, he tore my shirt and said, ‘Imagine you’ve taken a fantastic wicket!’ I raised both hands in the air and ran away, as that was my role in the film.”
He revealed that Priyadarshan chose him for ‘Hungama’ after watching his performances in ‘Jungle’ and ‘Chandni Bar.’ Yadav emphasized that the set was always filled with fun, ensuring that the characters remained unaffected by any external pressures.
