Ajit Pawar Laid to Rest with State Honours in Baramati

Baramati witnessed the final journey of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, whose last rites were performed on Thursday with full state honours. The funeral saw the presence of his immediate family, with his two sons paying the final respects by lighting the funeral pyre.

Several prominent leaders also attended the ceremony, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, among others.

Before the funeral, a large crowd participated in the procession, causing significant traffic congestion on the roads leading to the venue.

Ajit Pawar’s mortal remains were brought to his residence in Katewadi on Thursday morning. He tragically passed away in a plane crash on Wednesday at 8:45 am, which also claimed the lives of his security personnel, two pilots, and a female crew member, totaling five fatalities. In response to his death, Maharashtra observed three days of state mourning, during which all government buildings across the state flew the national flag at half-mast.

The police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) related to the plane crash. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has taken over the investigation. The ill-fated aircraft, registered VT-SSK, was operated by VSR Ventures.

According to information from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the crashed plane was a Learjet 45 with registration VT-SSK, managed by operator VSR Ventures. The flight crew initially aborted the landing sequence but was later cleared to land on runway 11 at exactly 8:43 am.

The incident marks a significant loss for Maharashtra’s political landscape, highlighting the importance of thorough investigation and continued vigilance in aviation safety.
