Ajinkya Rahane Sets Unwanted IPL Record with Duck in 2026 Match

Kolkata, April 19: In the 28th match of IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced off against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Eden Gardens on Sunday. KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane struggled with the bat, returning to the pavilion without scoring.

This match marked a new low for Rahane, as he became the batsman with the most ducks as an opening player in IPL history. He has now been dismissed without scoring on 12 occasions against RR. Following him on this unfortunate list is Parthiv Patel, who has been out for a duck 11 times as an opener in the IPL. Other notable names include Shikhar Dhawan (10), Gautam Gambhir (10), and David Warner (9).

Before Rahane’s dismissal, his opening partner Tim Seifert also fell without scoring. This is only the second time in IPL history that both KKR openers were dismissed for zero runs. The first instance occurred in 2014 when Gautam Gambhir and Jacques Kallis both returned without scoring.

Rahane has had a tough season in IPL 2026, managing only 152 runs in seven innings at an average of 25.33. He has scored just one half-century and has now been out for a duck in consecutive matches, having failed to open his account against Gujarat Titans as well.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi also had a disappointing outing, scoring just 10 runs off 19 balls. Cameron Green could not capitalize on a good start, making 27 runs with the help of four fours and a six off 13 balls. Rovman Powell also struggled, contributing only 23 runs.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals posted a total of 155 runs, losing 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 46 runs off 28 balls, while Yashasvi Jaiswal added 39 runs from 29 balls. However, the rest of the RR batting lineup struggled significantly. For KKR, Varun Chakravarthy took 3 wickets for just 14 runs, while Kartik Tyagi also claimed 3 wickets, conceding 22 runs.
