Mumbai, March 16: In the entertainment industry, films are often inspired by real events, allowing audiences to uncover stories that remain buried in government files. One such popular film is ‘Raid,’ featuring Ajay Devgn in the lead role.
This film is based on an income tax raid that took place in Uttar Pradesh. It has now marked its eighth anniversary since its release.
Ajay Devgn expressed his joy on Instagram, sharing a motion video with the caption, “You can’t hide anything from Amay Patnaik. Celebrating 8 years of ‘Raid’.”
In the film, Devgn portrays an honest officer, while Saurabh Shukla delivers a remarkable performance as the antagonist. The movie is still renowned for its suspenseful storyline.
Released in 2018, the film is a crime thriller based on a true incident from the 1980s in Kanpur. Devgn plays the role of an honest income tax officer, Amay Patnaik. The plot showcases a daring and risky raid conducted by a tough officer on the residence of a corrupt local leader, played by Saurabh Shukla, which keeps the audience engaged until the end.
Saurabh Shukla plays the powerful leader ‘Rameshwar Singh’ (Tauji), from whose home a significant amount of black money (cash and gold) is recovered. In the story, Tauji attempts to use his political influence to thwart the raid and even orchestrates an attack on Amay. However, Amay completes his mission within the confines of the law.
The film was a box office success and received considerable acclaim for its performances and direction. It garnered a positive response from audiences, leading the makers to release ‘Raid 2’ in 2005.
