New Delhi, December 6 – Air India and Air India Express on Saturday clarified that the airlines have imposed temporary fare caps on economy class tickets for non-stop domestic flights amid the ongoing IndiGo crisis.

Air India announced on social media platform X, “Air India and Air India Express have clarified that from December 4, economy class fares for non-stop domestic flights have been actively capped to prevent the normal demand-supply mechanism implemented by the revenue management system.”

The airline said it was aware of screenshots from third-party platforms showing one-stop or two-stop flights, combinations of economy and premium economy, or last-minute business cabin travel itineraries.

An Air India spokesperson said, “Technically, it is not possible to limit all such variations, but we are monitoring such platforms.”

Additionally, the Air India spokesperson stated that efforts are being made by Air India and Air India Express to increase capacity to help passengers and get their luggage to destinations as quickly as possible.

Earlier, the Ministry of Civil Aviation had informed that it has issued official directives to all airlines to strictly comply with prescribed fare limits.

The ministry said this step is being taken to ensure fair and reasonable fares on all affected routes amid IndiGo’s operational crisis.

The ministry also mentioned maintaining strict monitoring of fare levels during the current IndiGo crisis period.

In a statement, the ministry said, “The ministry will continue strict monitoring of fare levels through real-time data and active coordination with airlines and online travel platforms. Immediate corrective action will be taken in broader public interest for any deviation from prescribed standards.”
