New Delhi, March 9: Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu announced in the Rajya Sabha on Monday that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is conducting a swift investigation into the Air India Boeing crash that occurred last June in Ahmedabad. A report on the incident will be released soon.
The Air India Boeing 787 flight AI171, bound for London, crashed just seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport on June 12, 2025, resulting in the tragic loss of 260 lives, including 241 passengers.
Minister Naidu stated, “The investigation into the AI171 accident from last June is progressing rapidly, and the AAIB is being provided with all necessary resources for this primary investigation.”
He further added, “I would like to say that the report will be released very soon, by the end of this year.”
During a question-and-answer session in the upper house, the minister also mentioned that the central government is making every effort to ensure flight operations to bring back Indian citizens stranded due to the conflict in Iran.
Regarding the situation in West Asia and flight safety, Minister Naidu noted that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has promptly contacted airlines and issued circulars.
He mentioned that DGCA officials have held multiple meetings with airlines to ensure that flights operate only when 100% safety is guaranteed at airports in West Asia.
To prevent confusion among travelers, travel advisories have also been issued.
The minister reported that airlines are thoroughly studying available slots to operate services amid the West Asia crisis, and nearly 90,000 people have managed to travel to India in the past week.
He expressed optimism, stating, “We hope that the situation will improve in the coming days, allowing more people to travel by air.”
