AIMSA urges passport return and evacuation plan for Indian students in Iran

New Delhi: Concerns are growing over the safety and future of Indian medical students studying in Iran amid worsening conditions. The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) has written to the Indian Embassy in Tehran requesting urgent action.

Passport Return and Student Safety

AIMSA highlighted that many Indian students enrolled in various Iranian universities wish to return to India due to the current situation. However, they are unable to do so as their passports remain with the universities. The withholding of passports is preventing students from making any travel arrangements, causing significant distress among the students and their families.

Request for Embassy Intervention

Despite previous advisories issued, universities have not returned the passports, exacerbating the problem. AIMSA has therefore urged the Indian Embassy to engage with the relevant Iranian authorities and educational institutions to facilitate the immediate release of passports. This step is crucial to ensure that students who want to return to India can do so safely and without undue delay.

Evacuation Measures if Situation Worsens

In addition to passport retrieval, AIMSA has appealed to the embassy to consider evacuation plans should the situation deteriorate further. The association emphasized the importance of safeguarding Indian nationals, particularly students, under such circumstances.

AIMSA expressed confidence that the Indian Embassy will provide all necessary support to protect the interests of Indian students abroad. The organisation also affirmed its readiness to offer full cooperation and assistance as needed. This issue remains a major concern for hundreds of Indian students studying in Iran and their families.
