Kolkata, April 10: Political tensions are rising in West Bengal as the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has made a significant decision to sever its alliance with Humayun Kabir’s party. The AIMIM has announced that it will contest the upcoming elections independently, without forming any alliances with other parties.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, AIMIM clarified, “Humayun Kabir’s revelations have highlighted the vulnerability of Muslims in Bengal. AIMIM cannot associate itself with any statements that question the dignity of Muslims. As of today, AIMIM has ended its alliance with Kabir’s party. Muslims in Bengal are among the poorest, most marginalized, and exploited communities. Despite decades of secular governance, nothing has been done for them. AIMIM’s policy in contesting elections in any state is to ensure that marginalized communities have their own independent political voice. We will contest the Bengal elections independently and will not form any alliances with other parties.”
The controversy began after a purported video surfaced, allegedly showing Humayun Kabir strategizing with BJP leaders to defeat Mamata Banerjee. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) released this video during a press conference, escalating the political atmosphere.
TMC has accused Humayun Kabir of being in contact with senior BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari and Himanta Biswa Sarma. Furthermore, the party claimed that a substantial deal of around 1,000 crores was made to oust Mamata Banerjee, with 200 crores already paid in advance. TMC has demanded an investigation into the matter by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
On the other hand, Humayun Kabir has completely denied these allegations. He stated that the viral video is not authentic and was created using artificial intelligence. He labeled it a conspiracy to tarnish his image and mentioned that he would pursue legal action against it. Meanwhile, the BJP has also dismissed these allegations, asserting that TMC is fabricating such claims out of fear of losing the elections and attempting to create a negative atmosphere.
