New Delhi, February 17: Vinod Khosla, the Indian-American entrepreneur and venture capitalist, made a bold claim on Tuesday, suggesting that by 2050, people may no longer need traditional jobs. He believes that artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly advancing across all sectors and could completely transform the nature of employment.

Speaking at the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026′, Khosla stated that AI systems will become increasingly powerful and capable in the coming decades, fundamentally changing the future of jobs. He noted that by 2025, it will be evident that the traditional employment framework is undergoing significant changes.

The Silicon Valley investor warned that AI could eliminate a large number of white-collar jobs. He cautioned that IT services and business process outsourcing (BPO) companies might nearly vanish within the next five years.

Khosla reiterated that the outsourcing industry could be entirely gone by 2030. He pointed out that many in India still refuse to accept that AI will have a major impact on the IT sector, but the rapid advancement of technology will also affect industries that have historically been the backbone of the country’s economic growth.

He criticized the trend of professionals staying in large companies for 15 to 20 years, arguing that in a fast-evolving technological landscape, long tenures can diminish adaptability. Such individuals become less flexible in a changing industry environment.

Despite his warnings, Khosla praised India’s AI initiatives, stating that the India AI Impact Summit has been a tremendous success, with over 300,000 registrations.

He supported the concept of ‘Sovereign AI’, urging countries to develop their own AI systems, particularly for sensitive areas like cybersecurity and defense, rather than relying on foreign models. He mentioned that he has invested in ‘Sarvam’ to support India’s AI ambitions.
