The Indian Postal Department ramps up efforts in cleanliness and e-waste management as part of its Special Campaign 6.

New Delhi, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Postal Department is set to accelerate its efforts during the remaining duration of “Special Campaign 6.” This initiative aims to achieve specific targets, maintain cleanliness, manage e-waste scientifically, and reinforce its commitment to accountable, efficient, and citizen-centric governance.
Under the “Special Campaign 6,” the department has established ambitious goals, including resolving 150,000 public complaints, addressing 1,500 appeals, and conducting cleanliness drives at 135,000 locations across the country.
This campaign builds on the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance the delivery of public services, ensure accountable governance, and promote sustainable office management. As of October 16, cleanliness drives have been conducted at 73,814 locations, which is approximately 55% of the total target.
According to the Ministry of Communications, 100,214 public complaints have been resolved, achieving about 67% of the target. Additionally, 764 appeals have been settled, representing around 51% of the goal set for appeals.
Since October 2, 2026, a total of 306,026 kilograms of waste has been disposed of, generating revenue of 6.756 million rupees. In line with the focus on scientific e-waste management, 17,980 kilograms of e-waste have been processed, earning 2.764 million rupees. These efforts reflect the department’s commitment to responsibly handling and disposing of old electronic equipment.
In West Bengal, departmental staff and multi-tasking staff (MTS) have renovated the Senior Manager’s office at the Kolkata-based Mail Motor Service (MMS) using discarded wood. This initiative exemplifies the concept of “waste to wealth,” showcasing how creatively repurposing unused materials can enhance office infrastructure.
As part of its citizen-centric initiatives, the department has also launched a “DigiPost” service, which combines physical and digital mail delivery. This service allows traffic e-challans issued by the Gujarat police to be sent digitally and delivered physically to citizens.
This initiative highlights the postal network’s ability to leverage its extensive physical reach to deliver digitally prepared citizen services effectively.
