Two Arrested After 2.1 Kilograms of Suspected Marijuana Seized at Ahmedabad Airport

Customs officials seized 2.1 kg of suspected marijuana at Ahmedabad Airport, leading to the arrest of two individuals involved.

Ahmedabad, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : Customs officials at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad recently made a significant drug seizure, apprehending two individuals after discovering 2.117 kilograms of suspected marijuana. The incident occurred on October 17, when the airport’s Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) conducted profiling on a male passenger arriving from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on flight VJ-1805.

During the inspection of his luggage, officials uncovered seven vacuum-sealed packets containing a green substance, hidden inside a black handbag. The total weight of the seized material was approximately 2,117 grams.

Initial tests conducted by a forensic science lab confirmed the presence of active compounds consistent with marijuana in all seven packets. Following this discovery, customs officials identified a second individual who had come to the airport to pick up the passenger.

Investigations revealed that the second suspect allegedly coordinated the travel arrangements for the passenger based on instructions from individuals residing abroad. Authorities noted that WhatsApp chats related to the travel arrangements and the luggage were found during the investigation.

Both suspects have been arrested under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the roles of all individuals involved and their connections to those living overseas.

This seizure is part of a troubling trend, as Ahmedabad Airport has seen several similar drug cases in recent months. Notably, on September 21, customs officials seized 8.913 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana from another passenger arriving from Bangkok, along with an additional 5.519 kilograms of suspected hydroponic marijuana concealed in food packaging.
