Ahmedabad, June 1: Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has offered free treatment for hemophilia to 669 patients during the 2025-26 period, amounting to over ₹17 crore. Gujarat’s Health Minister, Prabhul Pansheriya, highlighted this initiative as a testament to the state government’s commitment to providing life-saving healthcare services to all citizens.
The Health Minister stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat government is running special programs for patients suffering from serious and rare bleeding disorders like hemophilia. As part of this initiative, the hospital has provided essential injections worth over ₹17 crore completely free of charge to 669 patients within a year.
He noted that the expensive clotting factor injections used for hemophilia treatment are being made available for free not only at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital but also at various government hospitals across Gujarat for needy patients.
Prabhul Pansheriya emphasized that the government has made several significant decisions to alleviate the financial burden of expensive treatments on poor and middle-class families. He explained that the cost of the clotting factor injections required by hemophilia patients is quite high, making it unaffordable for many economically disadvantaged families. To address this, the government has procured these costly injections on a large scale through the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Services Corporation Limited (GMERSCL).
Hemophilia is a rare genetic disorder caused by a deficiency of clotting factors seven, eight, or nine in the body. These proteins are essential for blood clotting. A deficiency can lead to prolonged bleeding from minor injuries or internal bleeding. In such cases, timely administration of clotting factor injections is crucial for saving the patient’s life.
Dr. Joshi explained that the injections provide the specific clotting factor that the patient lacks, effectively controlling bleeding and saving lives. He noted that due to the state government’s financial support and sensitive policies, all patients receiving treatment at the civil hospital are getting this expensive care without incurring any costs. This initiative has successfully saved the lives of hundreds of patients, offering them renewed hope through continuous and advanced treatment throughout the year.
