Aditya Tare Urges RCB to Trust SuYash Sharma for Title Defense

Mumbai, May 8: Former Mumbai Indians batsman Aditya Tare believes that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) must continue to support SuYash Sharma if they aim to win the trophy for the second consecutive time. SuYash’s performance against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was disappointing.

SuYash bowled only two overs against LSG, conceding 21 runs without taking a wicket.

Tare stated that for RCB to defend their title, they need to maintain their trust in SuYash. In an interview with ‘JioStar’, he emphasized that the franchise still lacks a reliable sixth bowling option. He urged RCB to give SuYash more responsibility instead of relying on part-time bowlers.

So far in IPL 2026, SuYash has played nine matches and taken only seven wickets.

During the discussion with JioStar, Tare remarked, “RCB has always struggled to find a dependable sixth bowler. I believe they need to support SuYash Sharma more. He should bowl his full quota of four overs. Yes, his line and length have changed, and SuYash’s form has dipped, but if RCB wants to defend their title, they must trust him.”

Tare also questioned RCB’s current bowling strategy, suggesting that the team would benefit more from sticking with SuYash than giving extra overs to all-rounder Romario Shepherd.

He added, “Instead of giving two overs to Shepherd, supporting SuYash is a better option. Shepherd has not performed well with the ball this year. Therefore, if RCB wants to lift the trophy again, SuYash Sharma needs more backing.”

RCB faced a thrilling defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday, losing by nine runs. In a rain-affected match, LSG batted first and scored 209 runs for three wickets in 19 overs. Mitchell Marsh played a remarkable innings, scoring 111 runs, while Pooran and Pant also contributed significantly.

However, RCB could only manage 203 runs while chasing a target of 213 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis rule, losing six wickets in the process. Captain Rajat Patidar top-scored with 61 runs, while Tim David added 40 runs off just 17 balls. For LSG, Prince Yadav excelled with the ball, taking three wickets, while Shahbaz Ahmed claimed two.
