
Mumbai, 30 December. The year 2025 witnessed a spectacular array of films lighting up the cinemas with hits like ‘Dhurandhar’, ‘Chhava’, and ‘Saiyara’ making a strong impact at the box office. The year 2026 is already gearing up to be an exceptional year for movie lovers, with a host of highly anticipated releases lined up from Bollywood as well as the South Indian film industry.
The upcoming slate includes films featuring big stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, spanning genres such as action, drama, mythology, horror-comedy, and war. Many of these films are scheduled to release around major festivals like Sankranti, Holi, and Independence Day, promising a box office boom.
The year will start with a bang in January with the release of ‘Ikkis’, a war drama directed by Shriram Raghavan. The film stars Augustya Nanda, grandson of Amitabh Bachchan, in the lead role, along with Dharmendra and Jaideep Ahlawat in pivotal roles. ‘Ikkis’ is based on the true story of India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee and marks the final film of the late actor Dharmendra.
Also in January, ‘The Raja Saab’, a horror-comedy starring Prabhas, directed by Maruti, will hit theatres. The film features Nidhi Agarwal, Malavika Mohanan, and Sanjay Dutt in key roles.
Another January release is ‘Jan Nayagan’, the last film of Thalapathy Vijay, a political action thriller directed by H. Vinod. The film stars Prabhas alongside actresses Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in prominent roles.
One of the most awaited releases is ‘Border 2’, the sequel to the 1997 classic ‘Border’. Directed by Anurag Singh, Sunny Deol returns in the lead role, supported by Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The film is a war drama based on the 1971 war and will release in 2026.
February will see the arrival of ‘Mardani 3’, featuring Rani Mukerji reprising her role as Shivani Shivaji Roy in this dark crime thriller directed by Abhiraj Minawala. It is said to be the darkest chapter of the franchise.
March is set for a major clash with Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar 2’ and Yash-Kiara Advani’s ‘Toxic’ releasing on Eid. The first look of the high-octane action film ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has recently been unveiled.
In April, Salman Khan’s ‘Battle of Galwan’, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, will depict the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict. The film also stars Chitrangda Singh.
June will welcome the release of Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’, an action-comedy directed by Nelson Dilip Kumar, featuring stars Vijay Sethupathi and Mohanlal.
August will see the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Love and War’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal.
Shah Rukh Khan’s fans have reasons to rejoice as his film ‘King’ will also release in 2026, featuring his daughter Suhana Khan alongside him.
Along with ‘The Raja Saab’, Prabhas will have another release titled ‘Spirit’, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.
Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Lahore 1947’, starring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta together once again, is also slated for release in 2026.
Lastly, Nitesh Tiwari’s much-anticipated film ‘Ramayana’, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash among others, is expected to hit theatres in 2026, although the makers have not yet confirmed the release date.
