Jhunjhunu, August 11, 2025 – Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will today transfer ₹3,200 crore in crop insurance payouts directly to the bank accounts of 30 lakh farmers. The event will take place in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, in the presence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Union Minister of State Bhagirath Choudhary.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), all farmers — big or small — whose crops are damaged due to natural disasters such as floods, drought, or hailstorms are eligible for compensation. The payout is credited directly to their bank accounts, enabling them to resume farming without delay. Farmers can also check their application status online without visiting government offices.
State-wise Allocation

-
Rajasthan: ₹1,121 crore
-

Penalty Provisions from Kharif 2025
From the Kharif 2025 season, a 12% penalty will be imposed on any state government that delays its subsidy contribution, and the same rate will apply to insurance companies delaying claim settlements.
New Claim Settlement Process
The Centre has introduced a simplified system where payouts will be made based solely on the central subsidy share, without waiting for the state’s contribution.
Lessons from Andhra Pradesh
Last year, farmers in Andhra Pradesh were denied benefits as the then state government failed to release its premium share for three consecutive years, despite promising to bear the full cost.
PMFBY Performance in 9 Years
Since its launch in 2016, PMFBY has benefitted 78 crore farmers with claim payments totalling ₹1.83 lakh crore, against a total farmer premium of ₹35,864 crore — a fivefold return.
Checking Claim Status
Farmers can visit pmfby.gov.in, select “Application Status”, enter their receipt number and captcha code, and view their live claim status online.
Fraudulent Claims in Maharashtra
An investigation revealed that 1.75 lakh farmers from eight districts in Maharashtra submitted false documents to claim insurance. The highest irregularities were in Solapur district, with 36,438 suspicious claims. The state government has decided to exclude all such cases from the scheme.
