Zheng Qinwen Withdraws from Japan Open Due to Shoulder Injury
Zheng Qinwen has withdrawn from the Japan Open due to a shoulder injury, following her recent victory at the China Open.

New Delhi, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : Zheng Qinwen has officially withdrawn from the Japan Open due to a shoulder injury. This decision comes shortly after she also pulled out of the Wuhan Open.
The Chinese tennis star recently achieved a significant milestone by winning the China Open, becoming the first Chinese player to clinch this title. However, after a lengthy return to the court from a previous injury, she found it necessary to withdraw from the Wuhan event.
Zheng will not be competing in the Japan Open, but she is expected to participate in the WTA 250 Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open in November. This tournament is one of the last two events of the year leading up to the WTA Finals in Indian Wells.
During the China Open, Zheng spent an impressive 15 hours and 16 minutes on the court over seven matches, the highest for any player in a single event this year. Entering the tournament as a wildcard, she defeated notable opponents including Elina Svitolina in the quarter-finals, Elise Mertens in the semi-finals, and Mira Andreeva in the title match to secure her first WTA 1000 title.
After withdrawing from Wuhan, Zheng expressed her disappointment, stating, “I am very sad to announce that I am withdrawing from this year’s Wuhan Open. Wuhan is where my tennis dream began, and it is also where I achieved success at the WTA 1000 level. I always look forward to competing in front of my hometown fans.”
In a statement following her withdrawal, she noted, “After returning from injury, I have played a tough series of matches over the past month and a half, including the US Open, Billie Jean King Cup, and China Open. My body feels very fatigued after such challenging matches.”
Since losing in the qualifiers in Toronto, Zheng has won 13 of her last 14 tour-level matches, showcasing her recent form and consistency.
