Yuvraj Singh Praises Abhishek Sharma After Stellar Performance Against Zimbabwe

New Delhi, February 27: The Indian cricket team secured a victory against Zimbabwe in their second Super-8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Thursday. Opener Abhishek Sharma made a significant contribution with a half-century. Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who is considered a mentor to Abhishek, praised his innings.

Yuvraj took to Instagram to express his admiration, stating, “The best conversations happen when you let the bat do the talking. Great innings, Mr. Abhishek, keep it up.”

Before the match against Zimbabwe, Abhishek had been struggling with poor form throughout the World Cup. He had been dismissed for zero in three consecutive group stage matches and managed only 15 runs against South Africa in the first Super-8 game. His lack of runs had put additional pressure on the Indian team, leading to difficult starts in each match.

There were discussions about dropping Abhishek from the playing eleven before the match against Zimbabwe, but the team management decided to trust him with another opportunity. Abhishek did not disappoint this time. Opening the innings alongside Sanju Samson, he took a few balls to settle in but then unleashed his explosive batting style.

The left-handed batsman scored 55 runs off 30 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 4 fours. His performance helped the Indian team post a formidable total of 256 runs for 4 wickets, ultimately defeating Zimbabwe by 72 runs, as they restricted the opposition to 184 runs.

Abhishek’s return to form against Zimbabwe certainly brought relief to the Indian team management ahead of their final Super-8 match against the West Indies.
