In response, 277 prominent figures, including former judges and officials, have penned a letter condemning the Youth Congress‘s actions. Former Delhi High Court judge S.N. Dhingra described the protest as an affront to national dignity.
In an interview with a news agency, Dhingra stated that the Youth Congress’s demonstration was legally and contextually inappropriate. While he acknowledged that protesting is a constitutional right of the opposition in a democracy, he emphasized that such actions during the summit affected national identity and respect.
He remarked, “Protesting is the opposition’s right, but such displays impact national dignity and honor. There are limits to protests; you cannot harm the nation’s respect, especially when leaders from 20 countries, CEOs, and diplomats were present.”
Dhingra clarified that the summit was not a political platform but a business forum focused on the future implications of AI. He asserted that the protest contradicted the decorum of democracy. Democratic expression and national interest should not be at odds. If democratic expression turns into opposition against the nation, it is misguided. Everyone has the right to express dissent, but jeopardizing national interests is not permissible. This act jeopardized both national interest and image, prompting the letter’s creation. An FIR has been filed regarding this incident, and the police and judiciary will perform their duties.
