Xiaomi Unveils Smart Camera 3 3K with Advanced AI and Dual-Band Wi-Fi

Xiaomi has introduced the Smart Camera 3 3K, an affordable indoor security camera featuring a 5MP sensor and enhanced low-light imaging capabilities. Priced officially at 199 yuan (approximately $28), the device is currently available at a launch discount of 169 yuan (around $24) in China.

High-Resolution Video and Enhanced Night Vision

The Smart Camera 3 3K records video at a resolution of 2960 × 1666 pixels, which is nearly three times the detail of standard 1080p cameras. Xiaomi highlights that this higher resolution improves facial recognition accuracy and object clarity, especially during playback and zooming.

Equipped with Xiaomi’s ultra-low-light full-colour technology, the camera maintains colour footage for longer in dim lighting conditions compared to conventional models. When operating in complete darkness, it switches to eight infrared fill lights providing clear black-and-white night vision without visible red light emission.

Advanced Tracking and Data Security Features

The camera comes with a dual-motor pan-tilt mechanism offering 360-degree horizontal and 109-degree vertical rotation. It supports human motion tracking, allowing it to automatically follow moving individuals while keeping them centred in the frame.

Xiaomi has incorporated robust data protection measures, including a Mijia security chip embedded in each unit with a unique private key and digital certificate. Video data transmission is encrypted, and cloud storage uses AES-128 encryption. Users can also set custom sleep schedules to disable the camera temporarily during specific hours.

On-device AI performs human detection locally for faster response times by avoiding cloud processing. When paired with Xiaomi’s cloud subscription, the camera supports AI-based face recognition to distinguish familiar faces from strangers and send alert notifications accordingly.

Connectivity, Communication, and Storage Support

The device offers two-way voice communication via a large speaker and an eight-metre microphone array with noise reduction, enabling users to communicate remotely through the Xiaomi Home app.

Supporting both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi networks, the camera uses H.265 video encoding to reduce file sizes and bandwidth usage by up to 50%. It supports microSD cards ranging from 8GB to 256GB, cloud storage, and NAS backup options.

The Smart Camera 3 3K integrates seamlessly with Xiaomi’s Mi Home ecosystem, working alongside smart displays, TVs, and XiaoAi speakers to build a connected home security system.
