Xiaomi recently held an internal TECHNOLOGY awards event in China, where the company highlighted its future direction through a showcase of innovation. Founder and CEO Lei Jun presented awards and prize money to teams across the Xiaomi Group for their technological achievements over the past year.
The event saw 154 project submissions from 10 different departments, with 66 projects reaching the final evaluation stage. These projects covered areas such as chip design, imaging, artificial intelligence, and advanced materials, marking new records for both quantity and quality within Xiaomi.
The top award was given to the team behind Xiaomi’s XRING O1 chip, a flagship mobile processor developed entirely in-house. The XRING O1 uses a second-generation 3nm manufacturing process and features a deca-core, quad-cluster CPU architecture. This accomplishment makes Xiaomi the first company in mainland China, and only the fourth globally, to launch a 3nm-class flagship mobile chip, placing it among the world’s semiconductor leaders.
However, the chip development is only part of Xiaomi’s broader strategy. During his address, Lei Jun outlined the company’s goal for 2026: to achieve a “grand convergence” by integrating a self-developed chip, operating system, and large-scale AI model into a single device. This integrated approach aims to create a seamless ecosystem across Xiaomi’s “people, car, and home” technologies.
Lei also disclosed Xiaomi’s financial commitment to this vision. The company had pledged 100 billion yuan towards core technology research and development five years ago and has already surpassed that target by investing around 105 billion yuan. Looking ahead, Xiaomi plans to invest an additional 200 billion yuan over the next five years, focusing sharply on chips, artificial intelligence, and operating systems.
According to Lei Jun, this full-stack development strategy is essential for building long-term competitive advantages and delivering a more connected experience to Xiaomi users.
