WTA Finals Draw: Rybakina Faces Noskova, Sabalenka Up Against Muchova

The WTA Finals draw pits top players Rybakina and Sabalenka against tough opponents as the tournament approaches.

New Delhi, November 4 (Daily Kiran) : The WTA Finals are set to bring thrilling matchups as the world’s top female tennis players prepare to compete. Defending champion Elena Rybakina faces a challenging path in the knockout stage. The 27-year-old is grouped with American duo Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, along with Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova.

The tournament features the eight best players globally, divided into two groups of four. Starting on November 8, the round-robin matches will determine the four semifinalists.

Semifinals are scheduled for November 14, with the final match to crown the champion taking place on November 15.

Rybakina’s first encounter of the tournament will be against Noskova, marking their first meeting in 2026. After losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the championship match at Indian Wells in March, Rybakina aims to successfully defend her title, a feat last achieved by Serena Williams in 2013-14.

Noskova, eager to make an impression in her debut at this prestigious championship, won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon earlier this year.

The last time Rybakina and Noskova faced off was in 2025 in Wuhan, where Rybakina secured her third consecutive victory in their head-to-head matches.

Coco Gauff, the 2024 WTA Finals champion, and Jessica Pegula, the 2023 runner-up to Iga Swiatek, were also in the same group last year. Pegula triumphed in their previous encounter, winning in three sets. However, Gauff has bested Rybakina in both their 2026 matchups, including the Wimbledon quarterfinals and the Cincinnati final.

Aryna Sabalenka, a two-time finalist who lost to Rybakina in last year’s title match, is placed in Group 2. She returns to Indian Wells, where she claimed the title in March.

In her group, Sabalenka will face Mira Andreeva, the 2025 Indian Wells and 2026 Roland Garros champion, Elina Svitolina, the 2018 WTA Finals champion, and Czech debutant Karolina Muchova.

Muchova holds a slight edge in their head-to-head record, but Sabalenka won their only encounter in Brisbane in January 2026. This season, Sabalenka has achieved several highlights, including winning the Brisbane title and completing the Sunshine Double.

For Muchova, 2026 has been a breakthrough year, earning her a spot in the WTA Finals. Her notable achievements include winning her first title in Doha after seven years, another crown in Bad Homburg, and reaching the second Grand Slam final at Wimbledon.

In doubles, Group 1 features top seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani, alongside Hanyu Guo and Kristina Mladenovic, Hsuan-Yu Hsieh and Jelena Ostapenko, as well as Zhang Shuai and Elise Mertens.

Dabrowski won the title with Erin Routliffe in 2024, while Mertens claimed the title last year and partnered with Veronika Kudermetova to win in 2022. Mladenovic is a two-time champion with Tímea Babos.

Group 2 in doubles will be led by 2026 Indian Wells champion Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend, who is back in action after recovering from appendicitis. This group also includes Cristina Bucsa and Nicole Melichar-Martinez, Demi Schuurs and Ellen Perez, along with Italians Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini.

Tennis enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting tournament as these elite athletes showcase their skills on the court.
