Woman Allegedly Raped After Husband Beaten in South 24 Parganas, One Arrested

A woman was allegedly raped in South 24 Parganas after her husband was assaulted. One suspect is in custody, while four others remain at large.

South 24 Parganas, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : In South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, police have arrested one suspect in connection with the alleged rape of a woman early Sunday morning. Four other suspects are still on the run.

The incident occurred in the Subhashgram area during the night between October 30 and 31. The victim filed a police complaint on October 31 at the local Sonarpur police station.

According to the victim’s statement, she had visited a relative’s house with her husband on October 30. Around 1:30 AM on October 31, as they were walking to another home in the area, five young men began to follow them and subsequently blocked their path.

The suspects reportedly assaulted the husband severely. When the woman cried out for help, one of the attackers brandished a knife and threatened her, warning that she would face dire consequences if she did not stop screaming. The victim was then dragged into a nearby empty room where she was raped.

The victim stated that one of the attackers raped her while the others restrained her limbs. They also threatened both her and her husband, insisting they should not report the incident to the police or tell anyone about it.

After the assault, the couple sought refuge at another home for the night. On Saturday, they approached the Sonarpur police station to file an official complaint.

Authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and arrested one suspect. The remaining four suspects are still at large, raising concerns among local residents about the police’s failure to apprehend them.

Tensions are high in the area as the community questions why the main suspects have not yet been caught.
