Mitchell Santner Breaks Ish Sodhis Record as New Zealands Most-Capped T20 Player

Mitchell Santner sets a new record for T20 matches played for New Zealand, surpassing Ish Sodhis previous mark.

Hamilton, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : Mitchell Santner achieved a significant milestone on November 1, as he became New Zealand‘s most-capped T20 player during the fifth T20 match against India in Hamilton. This match marked Santner’s 143rd T20 appearance, allowing him to surpass Ish Sodhi, who previously held the record with 142 matches.

In his T20 career, Santner has taken 151 wickets, while Sodhi leads with 165. The third player on the list for New Zealand is former fast bowler Tim Southee, who played 126 matches. Martin Guptill follows with 122 matches, and Daryl Mitchell rounds out the top five with 109 appearances.

The record for the most international T20 matches is held by England’s Jos Buttler and Ireland’s Paul Stirling, both with 163 matches. Ireland’s George Dockrell and India’s Rohit Sharma are tied for second place, each with 159 matches. Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi and England’s Adil Rashid follow closely with 155 and 153 matches, respectively.

New Zealand’s performance in the ongoing five-match T20 series against India has been disappointing. Having lost the first three matches, they have already conceded the series. However, they managed to secure a victory in the fourth T20. In the fifth match, New Zealand faces a challenging target of 192 runs to claim the series finale. It remains to be seen if the Kiwi team can achieve this goal.
