Kolkata, July 11: The political landscape in West Bengal is heating up following the BarUIPur incident, which has sparked intense debate over health schemes and political appointments. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sougata Roy has raised several questions regarding Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s visit to BarUIPur, the Ayushman Bharat scheme, and various political developments linked to the party.
In response to Suvendu Adhikari’s meeting with the families of victims in BarUIPur, Roy criticized the Chief Minister, stating that his role seems to be more about traveling than performing office duties. He emphasized that the real issue lies in the incident that occurred in the state and the subsequent actions taken. The murder of a 12-year-old girl in BarUIPur is a grave matter. The individual accused in this case was later killed in an encounter. If this is true, it raises questions about its legality, and the government must provide answers. His primary concern is what clarification the state government and the Chief Minister will offer regarding the alleged encounter.
Regarding the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in West Bengal, Roy expressed disagreement with claims that all citizens would benefit. He pointed out that the state government recently announced the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme because not everyone would receive adequate coverage under Ayushman Bharat. He asserted that previously, the ‘Swasthya Sathi’ scheme provided comprehensive health services to all citizens, whereas the new arrangement lacks similar coverage.
Commenting on political appointments and developments related to the Ritubrato Banerjee group, Roy made sharp remarks. He described it as a “conference of traitors.” Those who previously received significant political opportunities and benefits under former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee now appear to be aligning with separate factions. Referring to Ritubrato Banerjee, he noted that he has a history with leftist politics and does not give much weight to his statements.
