West Bengal Government to Host Celebrating Freedom Through Bengal Exhibition

Kolkata, August 7: Ahead of Independence Day, the West Bengal government is set to launch a special exhibition titled ‘Celebrating Freedom Through Bengal’ at Lok Bhavan. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Governor R. N. Ravi on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 5 PM.

According to a press release from the West Bengal government, this exhibition is dedicated to the freedom fighters, revolutionaries, and patriots of Bengal whose courage and sacrifice played a crucial role in India’s struggle for independence. The aim of the exhibition is to connect the younger generation with the values of patriotism, sacrifice, and service.

The exhibition will be open to the public and students from August 9 to August 14, 2026, at Lok Bhavan. The state government has urged educational institutions across the state to organize special tours for students during this period, allowing them to engage directly with the history and heritage of India’s freedom movement.

Visitors will have the opportunity to view rare historical materials, including old letters, photographs, autographs, postage stamps, coins, medals, postcards, and other memorabilia. These items will provide a detailed understanding of Bengal’s contributions to the national movement.

Highlights of the exhibition will include an autograph of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his photograph, a letter written by him to his uncle, and a telegram from Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. Additionally, a complete set of thirteen honors awarded by the Azad Hind Government will be on display. The exhibition will also showcase an autographed photograph of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, along with original signed artworks by renowned painter Nandalal Bose and his contemporaries.

The exhibition features autographs of key figures from the freedom movement and rare postcards over a century old, offering glimpses of historical Kolkata from that era.

This exhibition has been organized in collaboration with the Kolkata Collectors Club, which has long been dedicated to preserving historical collections and making them accessible to the new generation.

The government has invited representatives from print, electronic, and digital media to cover the inauguration ceremony on August 8 and the exhibition thereafter.
