Kolkata, August 17: The West Bengal government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, is set to celebrate its first 100 days in power on Tuesday. Preparations are underway to showcase the accomplishments of the new state administration.
Sources from the Nabanna state secretariat indicate that the first achievement to be highlighted by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s government is the near completion of the process to allocate land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for erecting barbed wire fences along the unfenced borders with neighboring Bangladesh in various districts.
According to data from the state’s Land and Land Revenue Department, which falls under the Chief Minister’s control, over 767 acres of land have already been transferred to the BSF across nine border districts. Additionally, the state cabinet has approved the transfer of approximately 362 acres of land, bringing the total area allocated to the BSF to over 1,100 acres.
Furthermore, for border security, more than 44 acres of land have been allocated to the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar, while the India-Tibet Border Police (ITBP) battalion headquarters in Darjeeling has been granted 110 acres.
The state secretariat sources also noted that another key focus will be on various infrastructure projects, including the Sevoke-Rangpo broad gauge rail project, a 100-bed ESI hospital in West Medinipur district, and the rapid availability of land for government warehouses and electricity substations.
A third major point will be the reopening of 16 closed jute mills during the first 100 days. Following this, information regarding the foundation stones laid for various projects will be shared, along with details on investments made and potential job opportunities.
The state government is also planning to promote free travel for women on government buses extensively and increase the number of public buses on every route.
In line with election promises, the new state government has launched the ‘Annapurna Scheme,’ which provides women with ₹3,000, doubling the amount previously offered under the ‘Lakshmi Bhandar’ scheme during the tenure of the former Trinamool Congress government.
However, criticism has arisen due to the rigorous verification process implemented to remove ineligible beneficiaries, resulting in many deserving individuals being excluded from the scheme. The state government and the ruling party have assured that efforts are being made to ensure that those who are truly entitled receive the benefits of the Annapurna Scheme as soon as possible.
Another significant aspect will be connecting the state to various central-sponsored schemes like ‘Ayushman Bharat,’ which was not permitted under the previous Trinamool Congress government due to its own health scheme. Those who are not eligible for Ayushman Bharat will now be covered under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme.
Finally, the government will highlight its various initiatives aimed at improving law and order in the state, including the recent passage of the ‘West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill, 2026,’ aimed at curbing disruptive activities and corruption.
