Ukraines Zelensky Reports Continued Russian Attacks on Energy Infrastructure Despite Ceasefire Announcement

Ukraines President Zelensky condemns Russian attacks on energy sectors, reporting casualties and ongoing threats despite a ceasefire.

Kyiv, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed deep concern over Russia’s ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, even after a ceasefire was announced. In a statement on social media, Zelensky reported that since the ceasefire declaration by U.S. President Joe Biden a week ago, Russia has deliberately targeted Ukraine’s energy, oil, and gas sectors with 76 attacks.

Over the weekend, two individuals lost their lives, and 12 others were injured, including two children, due to strikes in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa regions. Zelensky noted that thousands of families are currently without electricity, as repair crews work tirelessly to restore power.

The Ukrainian leader also highlighted that residential buildings in several areas have been hit. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured. On Sunday morning, a strike was reported at an agricultural facility in the Volyn region, where essential services are actively engaged in recovery efforts.

In total, Zelensky stated that Russia has launched approximately 2,700 drone strikes, 1,700 aerial bombs, and 66 missiles, most of which were ballistic, targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. He emphasized that these attacks aim to disrupt electricity supply on a massive scale.

Zelensky urged the United States to recognize that Russia has taken no positive steps in response to sanctions relief or any agreements. Instead, he argued that Russia interprets any economic advantage as validation of its strategy to prolong the war.

He reiterated that the conflict persists not because Ukraine is defending itself, but due to Russia’s aggressive stance. A genuine opportunity for peace will only emerge if pressure is applied on Russia. Zelensky expressed gratitude to those who understand this and continue to offer support.
