Kolkata, May 7: Following the murder of PA Chandranath Rath in North 24 Parganas, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has urged party workers to remain calm. He emphasized the importance of restraint and advised against any retaliatory actions.
Speaking to reporters at the Viva City Hospital in Madhyamgram, Adhikari acknowledged the outrage stemming from this brutal incident. He encouraged BJP supporters to trust the police investigation and to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
He stated, “There is a strong possibility of political connections behind this murder. I do not wish to comment further on this matter at this time. I have spoken with the state’s Director General of Police, Siddharth Nath Gupta. He informed me that investigators have found some clues from CCTV footage near the crime scene. Let us trust the police investigation. However, in this moment of sorrow, I humbly appeal to our party workers to exercise restraint and maintain peace.”
Adhikari assured that the party would take full responsibility for Chandranath’s family. He also promised that the party would cover the medical expenses for Chandranath’s driver, Budhadev Bera, who was also shot and remains in critical condition.
In response to the incident, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) issued a statement on its social media, demanding a CBI investigation under court supervision.
The TMC’s statement read, “We demand strict action in this case, including a CBI investigation monitored by the court, to identify the culprits and ensure they are punished without delay. There is no place for violence and political murders in a democracy, and the guilty must be held accountable as soon as possible.”
