Wang Yi Engages in Phone Dialogue with Afghan Foreign Minister

Beijing, March 14: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. During the discussion, Muttaqi praised China’s positive efforts to mediate the Afghanistan-Pakistan conflict.

Muttaqi expressed that the Afghan people have endured the pain of war and cherish opportunities for peace and development. He emphasized that Afghanistan aims to be a source of peace, not instability, in the region. He reiterated that the Afghan territory will not be used to launch attacks on neighboring countries and that Afghanistan does not desire war with any nation. He expressed hope that neighboring countries will develop mutual trust and friendly relations.

Wang Yi remarked that as the external environment becomes more unstable, it is increasingly essential for regional countries to unite and face challenges together. He noted that Afghanistan and Pakistan are neighbors that cannot go anywhere. Any resolution to issues between the two countries can only be achieved through dialogue and consultation. He warned that the use of force would complicate the situation further.

He also mentioned that China’s special envoy for Afghan affairs is actively involved in mediating between the two nations. China hopes both sides will exercise restraint and engage in face-to-face talks as soon as possible.

Additionally, both parties discussed the situation in Iran. Wang Yi stated that China will continue to play a constructive role in collaboration with the international community for peace.
