
Ranchi, March 26: A minor dispute between two youth groups in the Pandara OP area of Ranchi escalated into a violent confrontation on Thursday. The altercation began over a game of cricket in the Bank Colony area and quickly turned into a fierce brawl, leading to stone-pelting and gunfire that instilled fear throughout the neighborhood.
According to local residents, the initial argument rapidly intensified, drawing a large crowd of young people from both sides. Stones were thrown, and during the chaos, some individuals brandished weapons and began firing shots.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing approximately six rounds of gunfire, although police have confirmed only two rounds were fired. The incident caused a panic in the area, prompting residents of Bank Colony to immediately alert the police. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the rural SP, city SP, and the Kotwali DSP arrived on the scene with a heavy police presence. They cordoned off the area in an effort to control the situation and initiated a search operation.
During the police action, more than half a dozen suspects were detained for questioning. Several empty cartridges were also recovered from the scene, confirming the gunfire. Ranchi City SP Paras Rana noted that a similar dispute had occurred between the two groups on Wednesday, which had also escalated to violence. This ongoing conflict reignited on Thursday, resulting in the violent outbreak.
He stated that some individuals sustained injuries from the stone-pelting and are currently receiving medical treatment. Police officials have assured that a thorough investigation is underway, and anyone involved in the violence will face consequences. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain order and monitor the situation.
