
New Delhi, May 6: Vietnamese President To Lam paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat in New Delhi on Wednesday during his visit to India. He laid a wreath at the memorial, honoring Gandhi’s principles and ideals.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, shared this on the social media platform X, stating that Gandhi’s ideals continue to inspire India-Vietnam relations.
Earlier, President To Lam received a grand welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where he was greeted by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Children dressed in traditional attire waved the flags of India and Vietnam to honor the visiting leader.
On Tuesday, President To Lam arrived in Gaya, Bihar, where he was welcomed by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. He then visited the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya for prayers. Upon arriving in Delhi, he was welcomed at the airport by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai.
During his visit, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also met with President To Lam, discussing ways to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit is expected to provide new direction and strength to India-Vietnam relations.
Notably, this year marks the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Vietnam, which began during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Vietnam in 2016.
President To Lam, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, will remain in India until May 7. He is scheduled for extensive talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, covering bilateral, regional, and global issues. President Droupadi Murmu is also set to meet him.
As part of his itinerary, President To Lam will visit Mumbai, where he will tour the National Stock Exchange, meet with the Chief Minister and Governor of Maharashtra, and participate in a business forum.
