VHP Launches Parliament Contact Campaign Engaging 375 MPs

New Delhi, March 28: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has initiated an extensive ‘Parliament Contact Campaign’ during the budget session, engaging a total of 375 Members of Parliament (MPs). VHP General Secretary Bajrang Bagda announced this initiative on Saturday.

The campaign reached out to MPs from 29 political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress, Samajwadi Party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Telugu Desam Party, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction), Nationalist Congress Party, YSR Congress Party, and Janata Dal (United).

Bagda highlighted that the campaign involved discussions with several prominent non-BJP MPs, such as Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and H.D. Kumaraswamy. He noted that due to election-related commitments, some MPs could not be contacted, but the campaign received widespread support.

Three key issues were presented to the MPs during this campaign. The first topic pertained to Articles 29 and 30 of the Constitution. The VHP raised concerns about the implementation of special rights granted to minority educational institutions, stating that many such institutions have 90 to 95 percent Hindu students yet still receive minority status. The organization called for a review of these institutions and a clear definition of ‘minority.’ Additionally, they pointed out that the lack of 25 percent reservation under the Right to Education Act (RTE) contributes to this imbalance.

The second topic addressed population imbalance. Bagda emphasized the need for a uniform and effective population policy, suggesting that an ‘outer limit’ should be set for population growth. He also expressed concerns about the birth rate differences among various communities and illegal immigration.

The third topic focused on the development of pilgrimage sites. He mentioned that a significant portion of the country’s tourism is related to pilgrimages, yet insufficient attention has been given to infrastructure and facilities in this sector. The VHP proposed the establishment of a separate ‘Pilgrimage Department’ under the Ministry of Tourism to enhance connectivity, cleanliness, and amenities.

Bagda stated that many MPs responded positively to these issues and assured that they would raise them on relevant platforms.
