Mumbai, August 5: Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat, renowned for his memorable roles in Bollywood films like ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Ghajini,’ has passed away at the age of 74.
Rawat leaves behind his wife and son Vikramaditya. The sad news of his demise was shared by his long-time colleague and actor Yashpal Sharma. Yashpal, who also appeared in ‘Lagaan,’ paid tribute to Rawat on social media, stating, “Pradeep Rawat, our Ghajini Deva from ‘Lagaan,’ may God grant your soul peace.”
Reports indicate that the experienced actor had been battling cancer. It is also noted that Rawat was hospitalized shortly before his passing.
Throughout his career, which spanned over three decades, Pradeep Rawat worked in films across multiple languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. He made his acting debut in the 1985 Bollywood film ‘Meri Jung,’ portraying a police inspector.
However, he gained widespread recognition for his role as Ashwatthama, the son of Guru Dronacharya, in B.R. Chopra’s iconic TV series ‘Mahabharat.’ His early roles in Hindi cinema included the 1986 drama ‘Samundar,’ where he played a naval officer.
In 1990, he appeared alongside Amitabh Bachchan in the film ‘Agneepath.’ His notable performances continued with Aamir Khan’s ‘Sarfarosh’ in 1999, where he played the role of Sultan, a key henchman. In ‘Lagaan’ (2001), he portrayed Deva Singh Sodhi, a villager who joins Bhuvan’s (Aamir Khan) cricket team against British officers.
Other significant projects in his career include ‘The Hero: Love Story of a Spy,’ ‘Stalin,’ ‘Veeram,’ ‘1: Nenokkadine,’ ‘Loukya,’ ‘Nenu Shailaja,’ ‘Sarrainodu,’ ‘Nene Raju Nene Mantri,’ ‘Ayirathil Iruvaar,’ ‘Market Raja MBBS,’ and ‘Miss Match.’
