VCK Announces Candidates for Puducherry Amid Seat Dispute with Congress

Chennai, March 26: In the wake of a seat-sharing dispute with Congress, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) announced its candidates for three constituencies in Puducherry on Thursday. This decision follows Congress’s refusal to withdraw its candidate from the Uzhavar Kadai seat, which was allocated to VCK under the coalition agreement.

VCK stated that this seat was initially part of the allocation to the DMK-led alliance and was later transferred to VCK for contesting the elections. Despite this arrangement, Congress proceeded to field its candidate in Uzhavar Kadai, escalating tensions among coalition partners.

VCK accused Congress of having a candidate with prior affiliations to the RSS and BJP, who had recently joined Congress. This raised questions about the party’s loyalty to the coalition’s rules.

VCK expressed that its attempts to resolve the issue with Congress’s Puducherry unit were unsuccessful, as Congress remained firm on not withdrawing its candidate. The party noted that this situation has created uncertainty regarding its standing within the alliance and raised concerns about coordination among coalition partners.

As the deadline for candidate withdrawals approached at 3 PM on Thursday, VCK stated it had no choice but to announce its candidates for the seats where it had already filed nominations.

The party further emphasized that Congress’s stance has raised significant concerns about the coalition’s electoral prospects in Puducherry.

Appealing to voters for support, VCK reaffirmed its commitment to defeating the BJP-led alliance and establishing a government focused on social justice, harmony, and development.

The candidates announced by VCK include P. Ariyaputhri, also known as Arimathmizan, from Osudu, P. Amudavan from Nettapakkam, and Selva Pushpalata from Uzhavar Kadai.
